I'm sure you guys have heard a lot about what's going on in Gaza. Latest news is that Israel approved an even tougher war on Hamas yesterday, warning residents to flee southern Gaza ahead of planned bombing of cross-border tunnels, as the Palestinian death toll passed 700. The bloodshed in Gaza is escalating -- almost half of the death toll made up of civilians and children. While here we worry about the bleak economy ahead of us, or the boring life we may have, there is much more gravely problem happening to our brothers and sisters in Palestine. This reflects the state of the Ummah. Mereka dicubit, kita pun terasa! Brief history of Palestine, which is hardly ever reported today, is that Israel took land which was Palestinan's. UN General Assembly Resolution 181 called for the partition partition of Palestine into 2 distinct states, an Arab state and a Jewish state, each with set borders. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict stems from competing Jewish and Arab national aspirations for the region, and this has been started since 1897. you can do your part by: 1. signing a petition for a ceasefire through -- http://www.avaaz.org/en/gaza_time_for_peace 2. donate. the UN Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) has set up an emergency appeal. 3. boycott all israelis and american products. you can find the list of brands here. 4. as suggested by ust. Irwan, recite "qunut nazilah" in our prayers... or the very least is to include it in our dawn/Subuh prayer... 5. communicate, raise awareness. you can find out more by reading up on its history and keep up with the news. WE ARE LIVING IN HISTORY BOOKS NOW, ALL OF US!
